Prosomnus (Mandibular Advancement Device)
What is this service?
A custom mandibular advancement device is an alternative treatment method for individuals with obstructive sleep apnea. It works by temporarily moving the jaw and tongue forward, which reduces throat constriction and prevents sleep apnea and snoring. Moving the tongue forward increases airway space.
What is the procedure?
Wearing the ProSomnus device (like a mouthguard for your upper and lower jaw) holds your lower jaw gently forward and opens the airway in the back of your throat. This treatment can be effective for both sleep apnea and snoring.
What are the benefits?
In comparison with CPAP, mandibular advancement devices are portable, take up almost no physical space in the bedroom, and do not produce noise. They also do not require electricity. However, (Prosomnus) mandibular advancement devices are not effective for everyone. If you are considering treatment for sleep apnea or snoring, we recommend a comprehensive evaluation with Dr. Grabiak to help determine the right appliance for your needs.
