I solidly recommend Dr. Grabiak as an excellent dentist who is extremely skilled at restorative work and bite issues. He is extremely knowledgeable, patient, thorough, and a perfectionist. He is very easy to work with, as are his assistants and staff. The office decor is top-notch and presents a comfortable setting.
I’ve seen a number of dentists over the years, ranging from one-tooth dentists (who don’t address the overall bite) to very good. I would consider Dr. Grabiak to be at the very top of the list – a great dentist. Here’s why:
I had developed sleep apnea, where the airway closes off during sleep. I got a custom dental appliance (like a football mouth guard) to hold the jaw forward at night, keeping the airway open. After a year or two it permanently changed my TMJ – I was hitting on only my front teeth, which wasn’t very much fun. I was referred to an excellent orthodontist (Dr. Beaber) who put me in braces to fix the problem. Along the way I had some additional oral surgery.
However, because of my age (I’m several times older than most kids in braces) the bite still was not perfect – not hitting on all teeth. In addition, quite a few old crowns were due to be replaced. I needed to make a decision: whether to replace crowns piecemeal over time or to do everything at once and not have to worry about it again for twenty years.
I knew that if I took an incremental approach, my bite would be off for years, and that even after the work was completed, the final bite would not be as good as if everything were done at once.
Because of the magnitude of the overall work as well as the possible expense, I did a lot of research. I discussed treatment plans with my orthodontist, surgeon, and my previous dentist, who I thought was very good. I discussed treatment options with two additional dentists who were highly recommended. One was Dr. Grabiak.
I was impressed with Dr. Grabiak during the initial interviews and I continue to be impressed with him. He did what amounted to a full mouth restoration. He replaced old crowns, paying particular attention to both bite (via equilibration) and cosmetics.
After the work was completed, I had a follow-up visit to an excellent endodontist who had done a root canal a year earlier. He said that Dr. Grabiak had done a really good job. My orthodontist reviewed the work. He was very impressed – particularly with cosmetics – and commented that Dr. Grabiak is really talented.
Dr. Grabiak charged me a reasonable amount for the work. If anything, he undercharged me: he took additional steps to ensure that the new crowns were perfect, which resulted in additional lab work that he did not charge me for.
I know Dr. Grabiak did an excellent job. The bite is perfect. And I have a great smile! I consider myself extremely fortunate to have been referred to such a great dentist.
